English Department Year 10 Trip to visit Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre

On Wednesday 5th and Friday 7th June Year 10 students and accompanying teachers travelled up to London to visit Shakespeare’s Globe. When we arrived we were kindly greeted by our tour guides and were split into two groups. We were given a really interesting and fascinating tour of the theatre. We found out facts about the theatre’s history, architecture and performances. We were lucky enough to watch a talented cast dress rehearsal for a performance of The Taming of the Shrew.

After this we went across the road to the Globe’s rehearsal studios for a Romeo and Juliet workshop. We were given informative booklets full of useful facts and advice about the play. We did lots of physical activities to help us visualise the play as a performance rather than a written text. We spoke about the techniques Shakespeare used and the effects they would have had on an audience. We learnt many new concepts which will help us in our future studies.
