Year 9 Experience WW1 Trenches

On Thursday 21st and Monday 25th September Year 9 students completed a WW1 experience at the Detling Showground. In the morning they took part in workshops on the uniform of a tommy, the rations in the trenches and the impact of war on medical development.  In the after they had the opportunity to explore a recreated trench system, officers dug and German listening post, which had been built by CEMA (Centre for Experimental Military Archeology) along the lines of the original trenches that were built in Maidstone to defend against a possible German invasion in the First World War.
